ROTTERDAM - ARCHITECTURE & LE Workshop 24 - 26 April 2020

Manhattan on the river "Maas". That's what many international websites call it!

If you want to become proficient in architecture photography, this is the best location. We photograph various special buildings & bridges and learning  how to approach. Learn how to develop your own vision on this subject and how to express it in post processing. For this we provide 2 seminars in the evening. The first about architecture, how to see and we treat some architects. The next day a more extensive about a number of post processing techniques that you can use for this.

The photograph shown here is from one of my students Petra Ballings

Price: Euro 490 pp (deposit Euro150).  4 places based on single room occupancy

Price does not include travel to/from Rotterdam or food during the workshop.

If attendees wish to bring along a non-photographer partner to Rotterdam, please contact us and we will arrange a reduced price to cover costs for that person.

Modern architecture lends itself brilliantly to minimalist monochrome photography and this workshop aims to help attendees get not only the best shots in some of the most spectacular locations for modern architecture, but also to show how these images can be processed to create the most dramatic monochrome interpretations. We will explore long exposure techniques in the field to create the best possible RAW files, and then demonstrate luminosity masking techniques in Photoshop to convert the files into powerful and striking monochrome images.  We will be based at a hotel in London and will spend time photographing the business district around Canary Wharf, the Isle of Dogs, The South Bank from Tower Bridge to Tate Modern and the City. In the evenings we will have seminars on long exposure techniques and on Luminosity Masking. These workshops are a great chance to improve not only your photographic techniques but also to build up your post processing skills and create images that combine high drama and a modernistic style. (no in-depth knowledge of Photoshop is required)

Price £490 (£350 if not staying in the hotel). Deposit £100. . Price is based on sharing a twin room. If you require a single room, a supplement of £100 is payable. Price does not include travel to/from London or food during the workshop.

If attendees wish to bring along a non-photographer partner to London, please contact us and we will arrange a reduced price to cover costs for that person.

Workshop leaders: Tom Peck and Noel Baldewijns.

Paris is a wonderfully photogenic city with a long history of famous photographers: Eugene Atget, Robert Doisneau and of course Henri Cartier-Bresson to name a few. We will cover 3 areas of Paris in detail to give a varied & distinctive photographic flavour of this city. On Friday, we will make images of the beautiful bridges over the Seine: The Pont Neuf, The Pont des Arts and the Pont de Bir-Hakeim, close to the Eiffel Tower (which we shall of course visit too!). On the Saturday we will photograph the ultra modern Le Défense district: La Grande Arche and the city architecture. A great place for Long Exposure techniques to blur streaky skies behind glistening modern office buildings. On Sunday morning we will go to the Louvre & several other venues to juxtapose the modern and the classical architecture, so typical of Paris.

Price Euro 560 pp (deposit Euro250).  4 places.

Accommodation will be at Ibis (or similar hotel) in La Défense. Price  includes breakfast each day at the hotel, but not lunch or dinner. Price does not include travel to/from Paris, or food whilst there.

Normandy & the Opal Coast, France with Tom Peck & Noel Baldewijns Sun 21st – Fri 26th June (5 nights)

September 22, 2019

The chalk cliffs that we associate so much with the south coast of England actually have their beautiful counterpart in northern France. This 2 centre workshop will take us to some of the most stunning coastline just across the channel. The first 3 nights will be based in Cany Barville with its classic French château. We will visit the sea stacks and plunging chalk cliffs at Etretat, Saint Pierre & Grandes Dalles. Our location is close to one of the prettiest towns in the whole of France – Honfleur, and this will also give us the opportunity to photograph two spectacular bridges: The Pont Du Normandie and the Pont de Tancarville. Days 4 & 5 we will move to the Opal Coast between Calais and Boulogne. We will visit the vast sand beaches and cliffs of Cap Blanc Nez and Gris Nez (literally Capes ‘White’ and ‘Grey’ Nose), the 17th century sea fort at Embleteuse and finally the mussel beds and groynes at Wissant and Audreselles. This is an exciting new trip for Quest, a chance to make a wide variety of images in different styles – long exposures on the beaches, dramatic views of the cliffs, detailed shots in town harbours and minimalist photographs of huge suspension bridges.

Price: £895. 3 places max. Cost based on sharing a twin room. Single supplement £200.

Travel: Tom will be driving from Epping to the Tunnel and then to Normandy. Pick up en route is possible, or at Ashford, Kent (Eurostar stop). Please contact Tom for details. Bookings to Tom (07515549485) or by post.
